Betty Tucker – Author, Educator, and Advocate for Literacy
Betty Tucker is a passionate educator, award-winning author, and advocate for literacy, diversity, and inclusion. With a career spanning decades in the education field, Betty has dedicated her life to empowering students through storytelling and academic excellence.
Born and raised in Belle Glade, Florida, Betty experienced firsthand the hardships of being a child migrant worker, an experience that shaped her resilience, determination, and commitment to education. Despite facing systemic challenges, she pursued her dreams, becoming an accomplished teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District and Oakland Unified School District.




Betty is the author of the powerful memoir Don’t Worry About The Mule Going Blind, which chronicles her journey from an underserved childhood to a trailblazing educator who fought against age discrimination and systemic barriers in education. Her memoir serves as an inspiration to students, educators, and lifelong learners, highlighting the importance of perseverance and self-advocacy.
In addition to her memoir, Betty has written several children’s picture books, focusing on early literacy, inclusion, and social-emotional learning. Her books, including Catherine’s Birthday Party, Archie the Cat Finds His Purpose, and the Sight Words Strike series, are designed to engage young readers while reinforcing essential reading skills.
Through her work as a speaker, literacy advocate, and curriculum developer, Betty collaborates with schools, libraries, and literacy organizations to promote reading and education. She continues to inspire audiences through speaking engagements, online courses, and mentorship programs for aspiring authors and educators.
